From a genesis launch event in London to rapid community growth and partnerships across the DeSci landscape, SpineDAO has been practically ahead in less than 4 months. In this report, we’ll recap key highlights of our journey as an organization changing back stories.

SpineTech 2025 

We kicked off the year with our genesis event in London, marking SpineDAO’s official debut. This exclusive gathering – SpineTech 2025 – was our chance to present SpineDAO to the world and laid out our vision to revolutionize spine health. Important presentations and sessions spanning data privacy and protection for spine health patients to integration of spine health solutions to devices for post surgery monitoring. The event featured guest speakers from across the MedTech and DeSci spectrum, including representatives from Bio Protocol, Preprints, Data Lake, UpSurgeOn, and VirtualiSurg​.

Product Updates

In February, we kicked off product development pushing forward both the development of our AI-assisted Triage system which would help reduce patient time for accessing spine care and the expansion of its archival initiative. These efforts have been centered on building a secure, efficient, and AI-enhanced system that ensures access to critical medical knowledge while improving the experiences of surgeons, specialists, and patients. 
In addition, our advisor network of surgeons and specialists have been testing and validating the algorithm ensuring its realistic application in a real clinical workflow.

Together with Preprints and Académie Nationale de Chirurgie, we’ve been hard at work on the Spine Archive – a vast digital repository of spine health knowledge. 

We tested the possible integration of the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology into our archive workflow in Q1. This means we can take aging manuscripts, rare spine journals, even century-old surgical textbooks, and turn their pages into searchable data. Our collaboration with the French surgical academy made access to some priceless historical texts easier for digitization!
We are looking forward to commencing beta testing in a few weeks and hopefully followed by a soft launch.

Surgeons, specialists, crypto experts and health enthusiasts who believe in the core mission have stuck around and have been spreading the word.

Q1 featured interactive AMAs and Twitter Spaces connecting our team with the broader community. In February, we joined a Bio Protocol live AMA on Twitter Spaces, where members of the core team shared SpineDAO’s vision for revolutionizing spine care with a global audience. Missed it? We also hosted our first community Twitter Spaces with Barthelemy Liabaud and Bassel Diebo to discuss SpineDAO, spine health, and many more. These conversations have increased the interest in our work and given a peek into the differences we aim to make. 

Patient Stories

Just last week, we released a powerful story about one of the patients in our community that resonated with everyone who cared to listen.
In the video, Data Landais shares how she spent years in pain with no answers before finally getting a proper spine diagnosis – an all-too-common journey.
This heartfelt story underscored why our vision matters: no one should suffer or fall through the cracks in the system.

Spine Summit 2025

SpineDAO hit the road to Tampa, Florida, for the AANS/CNS Spine Summit 2025 – one of the biggest annual gatherings of spine professionals. Our core team members, Dr. Bassel Diebo and Dr. Virginie Lafage, participated in panel discussions and on the ground networking with surgeons from around the globe. 

AAOS 2025

In addition, ​Dr Virginie Lafage and Dr Bassel Diebo of our core team had the privilege of presenting the Sagittal Alignment Course at the  American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) 2025 Annual Meeting, held from March 10 to 14 at the San Diego Convention Center. This premier event brought together orthopedic professionals from around the globe to share knowledge, innovations, and advancements in musculoskeletal care.

Partnerships

Here are some partnership highlights from the quarter:

• Data Lake Collaboration: In late January, we announced a flagship partnership with Data Lake – an innovative platform for medical data donation. This is huge for our data strategy. Data Lake will help SpineDAO collect and manage patient-contributed data in a GDPR-compliant, ethical way​.
  

• Spine Archives Partners: With Académie Nationale de Chirurgie and Preprints, we started a journey to preserve, digitize, and expand access to centuries of invaluable spinal research and surgical knowledge through Spine Archives.
  

• SpineTech2025: SpineDAO connected with some amazing medtech innovators at SpineTech 2025. They include: UpSurgeOn, VirtualiSurg, Cortexxmi, Science, Artefact, and Follow Health. Check out their detailed presentations at SpineTech 2025 here.
